Basic Appliance Repair Tips

Though our appliance repair technicians make their living fixing home appliances, we are happy to provide some basic information to our customers so they will remember us when they really need us.  Not only can you save money by checking a few things first, but your time is valuable as well…and so is ours!  If we can provide a quick fix here then we can be sure we are readily available when our expertise is truly needed.

Below are some basic appliance repair and troubleshooting tips.

Of course the first thing to do is make sure the appliance is plugged in.  (Seriously?)  Yes, how embarrassing would it be if you called a service technician and they simply plugged it in (then presented you a bill for their service call)?  It is more common than you think, especially when a vibrating washing machine causes the plug to come loose or the cat brushes by it and dislodges it.

Next, check the circuit breaker or fuse…reset breaker or change the fuse and try again.

Check the water supply valve…make sure it is turned on and the machine is taking in water.

Make sure the door/lid switch is unobstructed and the door is closing properly.

Make sure you are following recommended guidelines and operating procedures provided in the service manual.

The service manual is a valuable resource.  It has a troubleshooting section that provides useful information…read this to see if there is an easy solution before calling the appliance repair technician.

Smelly washing machine?  That mildew smell is caused by moisture trapped in a dark enclosed area.  Leave the door open after doing laundry to allow it to air out.

Check back often as we will be adding pages for more specific appliance repair tips such as refrigerator repair, stove and range repair, dishwasher repair and more.
